Descrizione
Endoscopic UltraSound (EUS) is a minimally invasive endoscopic examination which has enabled in the last 30 years considerable progressin the evaluation of the gastrointestinal tract walls and nearby organs and structures (mainly mediastinum, pancreas and retroperitoneum). Today EUS is a leading technique in the field of GI oncology, mainly for pre-therapeutic staging of GI cancers and for the diagnosis and staging of biliopancreatic diseases. But at present we must recognize the increasing role of EUS also in pulmonary medicine (lung cancerand mediastinal pathology) and in interventional therapies. Both these new applications are extensively covered in two specific chapters of this Atlas.
