GIDE (Group for International Design Education) is an international consortium of higher education design schools, which promote the exchange of design education with an ethical dimension; exploring multidisciplinary and intercultural experiences; working practices and competences across the European Union and beyond. The group consists on 7 main partner colleges and schools in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.This book introduces, in the first part, the theoretical contributions of the design schools involved on "Design for innovative communities" topic and in the second part, the results of the project developed in the fall semester of 2009/10 academic year by each participant. Teachers and students from several European countries investigate a common theme, sharing experiences, cultures, design capabilities. The different approaches to project design and the different aspects of the discipline of the participating schools, will help to make this work an interesting opportunity to question the role that the design of spaces and 3D design have in the development of new reference scenarios of contemporary living.Davide Fassi Architect, graduated in 2000, PhD in 2006 at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. Since 2001 he has been involved in set-design for television and events. He joined several national and international research projects on design of the spaces. He taught at the Politecnico di Torino and currently he is teaching at BSc and MSc in Interior Design and MSc Product Service System Design at the Politecnico di Milano where he is also responsible for exchange programs, coordinator of GIDE (Group for International Design Education), temporary research fellow and member of DHOC (interior Design for HOspitable Cities) research unit.Agnese Rebaglio Graduated in 1999, in Industrial Design and Multimedia Communication at the Politecnico di Milano. In 2004 she get a PhD in Interior Architecture and Exhibition Design at the Politecnico di Milano. Since 2008 she has been working as researcher at the INDACO (Industrial Design, Arts, Communication and Fashion) Department on strategies and methodologies to build value and innovation through interior design tools and practices in the urban space setting up, temporary solutions, re-designing of disused space. She is member of DHOC (interior Design for HOspitable Cities) research unit.
